Hillendahl Neighborhood Library

I visited this library again today after a good 15+ years (I used to bring my daughters here when they were little). I came in with my son today and got his first library card. I had a great experience. Everyone was courteous and friendly. To my surprise I noticed a lot of things had changed over the years. I had trouble trying to figure out how to find books on the library’s database and was getting overwhelmed ( I didn’t know where to start!) after struggling for a while, I finally decided to go to the front desk and asked for help A very nice lady by the name of Alma helped me and taught me how to navigate through the library system. She was very kind and patient and showed me where to find books that were age appropriate for my son. Thanks for you kindness, Ms. Alma :)

Today I came to donate some books, which were very heavy. I was not informed that I needed to count the books in advance. A kind lady who was leaving opened the door for me, which I really appreciated. However, my interaction with the staff inside was very disappointing. There were four staff members, including security, but when I asked about donating, no one offered any help or support. One employee asked if I had counted the books. When I said I had not, she only said she would count them herself, while I still had to lift and move all the heavy books on my own. The attitude felt unfriendly and lacking in basic consideration for someone trying to make a donation. I am not asking for special treatment or “customer service,” but I do expect a minimum level of common sense and kindness. When someone brings in a large, heavy donation, it should be natural for staff to offer simple assistance or at least show some appreciation. I truly hope the management will improve staff training so that future donors have a more respectful and supportive experience.

We took our 1.5yr old baby boy here to join the kids playtime activity. They provide about 8 boxes of various toys, and play the nursery rhymes which kids can sing aloud together. Also, the librarians here are so kind and supportive to introduce the environment and share the books information. We will definitely plan to bring our boy here again for the playtime and checking out some toddler reading books.

Really nice place, well organized, clean. Only problem has one bathroom. So if you are in a hurry to go. And someone is inside you will have to hold it. But other than that is great.
