Very nice place to visit, of course it’s FREE like all of the other museums in DC! Also it’s easy to get a guided tour, (also free), plus there is a tunnel walkway to the Capitol Building where theres a huge cafeteria! The library itself is not big on displays but what is there is fun.

Recommend reserving free timed tickets ahead of time. Spent around a hour here. You have to place all belongings included watches, belts, wallets, purses, phones into buckets that they scan in and you have to walk through a metal detector. It wasn’t a long wait, the employees were nice, professional, and very knowledgeable. Even with school groups there was plenty of space to sit, rest, and look at the seperate galleries of history they have on display.

My visit to the Library of Congress was truly an impressive experience. The place is incredibly interesting and absolutely majestic—every detail reflects history, culture, and a remarkable sense of grandeur. Walking through it feels both inspiring and unforgettable. What made the experience even more special was the staff. Everyone was exceptionally kind, warm, and welcoming, which created a truly pleasant atmosphere. Located right next to the United States Capitol, it is the largest library in the world and holds millions of books, manuscripts, maps, and historical documents. The highlight of the visit is the stunning Thomas Jefferson Building. As soon as you walk inside, the architecture immediately stands out with its grand staircases, marble columns, colorful ceilings, and incredible artwork. The main reading room is especially impressive with its massive circular design and beautiful dome above. One fascinating fact is that the Library of Congress contains more than 170 million items including rare books, historical photographs, maps, music recordings, and even early films. It is not only a library but also a research center used by scholars and historians from around the world. Entry to the building is free, and visitors can explore exhibitions and view the famous reading room from the balcony area. The security check is similar to airport screening, but the process is usually quick. Parking around this area is limited, so it is easier to walk from nearby landmarks like the United States Capitol or take the metro to Capitol South station. A helpful tip is to visit in the morning when it is less crowded and take a few minutes to appreciate the detailed artwork on the ceilings and walls. Many visitors rush through, but slowing down allows you to notice the incredible craftsmanship throughout the building. This place feels more like a grand museum than a traditional library, and it is definitely one of the hidden architectural gems of Washington DC.

Top tier visit in DC. Honestly I sometimes feel like this is a hidden gem that is at the bottom of the list for some people but then people find out loving it way more than expected. For history buffs, I think being here would be unreal because of all the historical books being preserved here. For people who enjoy architecture or just love aesthetic photos, this is an incredible spot that you can appreciate how well the building is built. It is also a hidden gem to being able to take photos of the capital and the big pencil as well. The art on the ceiling is literally to die for, do symbolic, literally every corner has an incredible story or reason why it's there. The Jefferson building is where all of the art and more touristy picture taking groups should go, I would say it's better than some of the other museums at National Mall that I've been to. Hidden gems that should really be at the top of the list for travelers.

Absolutely amazing and one of the highlights of our Washington, DC trip. The architecture alone is breathtaking, but seeing the Gutenberg Bible in person was beyond words. The Gutenberg Bible and original drafts of the U.S. Constitution are highlights, while rotating displays keep the experience fresh. Guided tours are informative, and the staff are welcoming and knowledgeable.

It was so fun exploring the library, the architecture inside is so worth it and how well designed it it. My favorite part was the big library we were able to go to, it was so big and beautiful with so many books. They also have a section near by the exit for kids and it's interactive and fun for the whole family. I do highly recommend to come early if you got tickets for the early morning session because the line is so long. Also when you are visiting the library I recommend to do that first because the line gets long and they can only take a certain amount if people at a time, and the time in there is 4 minutes. Above if you don't want to go and wait then the 3rd floor has a viewing deck. They also have a section about empowerment and human rights that America fought for. Overall highly recommend this if you are visiting D.C.

I hoped the Library of Congress would be cool but I did not expect it to be as amazing as it was, like definitely a highlight of my entire DC trip. The building itself is absolutely stunning, and the collection is unbelievable. We saw the Gutenberg Bible, Thomas Jefferson's library, and an amazing selection of the library's collection in a special display for the 250th, which included pieces from a signed work by Paul Revere to a Kermit the Frog puppet. Our whole family was captivated. If you love books and Americana and beautiful places, you will love the Library of Congress.
