A treasure trove to explore! I was very interested in the special collections (e.g. collections of maps, musical scores, and rare books.) In each department, the person working there took a moment to describe the nature of their work and invited me to look around. The rare books department was a little hard to find, but it was worth the effort. There was also a gallery with a well-curated collection of contemporary/modern art. It's free for locals and tourists alike.

The Central Library is my home away from home, my remote office and study. It’s the place I can go to get things today. Today the library is hosting a sewing class, for all levels. Ask abt it…

I love the Parkway Library. Visited many times. Today I went in for the Rare Book Collection. I’ve been up there before and I love what they have on display. Sadly, this time the security guard INSIDE the exhibit was on his phone watching videos at full volume the entirety of my visit to this collection. It was impossible to concentrate on the displays because of the noise. It traveled all the way down the hall. When I left I mentioned this behavior to the staff at the desk right outside the exhibit, where I was told there’s nothing they can do to get the security guard to stop. That seems incredibly backwards for a library. Wouldn’t I be asked to stop if I were playing loud noises from my phone for hours at a time in this exhibit? This guard’s behavior and the staff’s response were incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful to library-goers. Do better.
