Birmingham, AL
The 1954 wing of the A.G. Gaston Motel, including the visitor center, is temporarily closed. The A.G. Gaston Motel served as the headquarters for the Birmingham campaign. In April through May of 1963 civil rights leaders, including Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., took up residence at the motel where they strategized and made critical decisions about the non-violent campaign that targeted Birmingham’s segregation laws and practices. Several key events of the campaign publicly unfolded at the property.

The visitor center is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. Summer hours are May 15 through September 30. The visitor center features a large diorama of Miocene mammal fossils, 12-minute park movie, and the James H. Cook Collection of Lakota artifacts, a unique collection of American Indian artifacts gifted to the Cook family by Chief Red Cloud and his descendants. Two trails are open every day from dawn till dusk.

The Anniston Greyhound Bus Depot is open Tuesday–Thursday, 10 am–4 pm. Park rangers and volunteers will be available to open the site and answer visitor questions, provide parks brochures, park stamps, and Junior Ranger books and badges. Outside exhibits are open 24 hours every day. Visiting on a day the depot isn't open? Visit the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce for passport stamps and brochures.

Three rooms of exhibits provide information on the campaign and some of the personalities of Second Manassas, the civilian experience and the current Brawner farmhouse. The Visitor Center, Museum, and Reconstructed Barracks are currently open 7-days a week starting on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026 through Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2026. Operating hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Visitor Center provides an orientation to the events that unfolded at Camp Nelson through exhibits and a 17-minute film. The Reconstructed Barracks features the award-winning Network to Freedom and Soldiers Exhibit.

Located near Dinosaur, Colorado, at the base of the Harpers Corner Road, the Canyon Visitor Center is the gateway to the monument's mountains and river canyons. This building is open in summer and closed during the winter. Exhibits and a park film orient visitors to resources, and staff are available to answer questions. A bookstore sells items that can further enhance your experience. Restrooms and water are available seasonally. There are no dinosaur fossil sites on this side of the park.

Construction began in 1932 to create the current adobe visitor center. Funding was provided for only half of the open square building, final completion was delayed until 1956. Exhibits, restrooms, bookstore, and orientation movie are available in the current building. All park visitors enter the historic area by passing through the visitor center.

Just up the path from the Visitor Center is a historic log cabin built in 1937. Once used as our Information Center, this building now features a self-guided display about the people who have called this area home. Stop in and explore the human history of Cedar Breaks!

Explore the history of Cesar Chavez and the farmworker movement. Originally built in 1914, the visitor center was entirely rebuilt in 2003. Inside, watch films about Cesar’s life, contemplate his office, and view exhibits that tell the story of the boycotts and marches that began the farmworker movement, and of the people who united to work for human rights. The visitor center has an auditorium that has hosted naturalization ceremonies, and a store that offers books and souvenirs. There is no entrance fee.

Constructed in 1771, the Chatham grounds hold stories of the horrors of slavery, the establishment of the United States, conflict surrounding the institution of slavery and Civil War, Reconstruction, Colonial Revivalism and today, the continued struggle to come to terms with the country’s past. The Chatham gate is open 9 am to 5 pm every day.

The Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center is located at the north end of Chickamauga Battlefield. There is a bookstore administered by America's National Parks and an orientation film is shown every half hour. The Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center is open daily from 8:30 am to 5 pm but is closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day.

The visitor center, on the right 3.5 miles after the entrance, is open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. It has an information desk, museum, park film, and gift shop. It provides free maps, junior ranger booklets, and information. The museum includes geology, biodiversity, and human history exhibits. Its architecture showcases Civilian Conservation Corps rock work and Mission 66 architecture. The park store has shirts, books, stickers, and other collectibles. It is cashless! So, bring your card or mobile pay!

The visitor center includes in-depth exhibits on the Coronado Expedition of 1540-1542, as well as thorough information about the natural history of the park. There are hands-on displays of 16th century clothing and armor for visitors to try on, and interactive exhibits in English and Spanish. A 14-foot picture window provides visitors with a wonderful opportunity to view and photograph the flora and fauna in a relaxed atmosphere.

The home of Gettysburg attorney David Wills was the center of the immense clean-up process after the Battle of Gettysburg and where President Lincoln put the finishing touches on his Gettysburg Address. The museum features six galleries, including two rooms that have been restored to their 1863 appearance: Wills' office, where he planned for a Soldiers' National Cemetery after the battle; and the bedroom where Lincoln stayed and prepared the Gettysburg Address. Admission to the Wills House is free.

Tent may be closed due to thunderstorms, high temperatures with a heat index over 95 degrees, and high sustained winds.

The Devils Postpile Ranger Station is open daily from 9 am - 5 pm during the operating season which is typically mid-June to mid-October. Rangers can help you plan your adventure at Devils Postpile. The ranger station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its association with changes in national park planning and development from the late 1930s to the start of World War II in 1941. The simple two-room cabin was constructed in 1941 from lumber salvaged from the demolished Sentinel Hotel.

Ellwood is located on the Wilderness Battlefield. Ellwood was a slave plantation, a Civil War headquarters and hospital, and its small family cemetery contains Confederate general Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson's arm. The gate is open during the hours the house is open, but the grounds of Ellwood are open sunrise to sunset. When the gate is closed visitors may park next to, but not blocking, the gate and walk the grounds.

Located west of the mausoleum across the southbound lane of Riverside Drive, the visitor center provides a bookstore/gift shop, information desk staffed by a park ranger, interpretive exhibits and a 22-minute park film about Ulysses S. Grant and the mausoleum. The overlook pavilion offers a view of the surrounding Riverside Park and the Hudson River. The structure was originally a comfort station built in 1910 and was renovated to become the visitor center in 2011.

Station is located in the former plantation home of the Eppes Family. When open, visitors can view a 15 minute video and tour the first floor of the home including a room with interpretive exhibits and two rooms with original 18th and 19th century furniture that belonged to the Eppes Family. Exhibits focus on the Union Army's occupation of City Point, as well as the lives of the free and enslaved people who lived on the plantation before the war.

Begin your visit to the park at the Henry Hill Visitor Center. Here, you can pick up a park brochure, trail guide, or learn about the daily schedule of interpretive programs. A museum features artifacts related to the First and Second Battles of Manassas as well as a 6-minute electronic map showing the troop movements during the first battle. Open year-round, the Grand Portage National Monument Heritage Center opened on August 10, 2007, with a commitment to honor the area's history, people, and culture. The Center houses exhibit galleries about Anishinaabe culture and the fur trade, a bookstore, and multi-media programs. Ask questions, plan your visit, stamp your passport, borrow snowshoes (in winter), and more at the front desk. The historic site is open late May through mid-October.

Enjoy the exhibits on the ground floor of the Historic Cant Ranch Museum located in the Sheep Rock Unit. It features artifacts from some of the Native Americans who inhabited the region and stories from homesteaders describing early ranch life. Learn about James and Elizabeth Cant's experience immigrating to John Day Basin from Scotland in the early 1900s, raising a family, and living off the land until their deaths in the early 1970s.

The park's visitor center offers museum exhibits, a film, and a book sales area. The award-winning film Weet'uciklitukt: There's No Turning Back, Battle at Big Hole provides an introduction to the Nez Perce Flight of 1877 and the battle that took place at this site. The film is shown throughout the day and is close-captioned. Audio and braille guides are available upon request. Park grounds are open sunrise to sunset daily.
